an installation nightmare, a story with happy end

    I'm coming from ubuntu 8.04, after seeing any kde4' screenshots I decided to test kubuntu 8.10 beta (5 days before final version). I have an AMD 64 3500+ / 2Gb of RAM / Nvidia 8600 / 120Gb HD / 300Gb HD.

    First Chapter:

Booted up with kubuntu live cd (sloooooooowwwww boot up) and got a nice desktop with annoying flickering, ok, let's go install and give it a chance.

Next problem is here, wtf it takes 1 minute between clicking forward and get next screen?? (and please don't click backward!)

After several minutes waiting and getting annoying flickering, files start copying and kubuntu tries to boot up...

ooopsssss! GRUB error 17 at this stage it's really so hard an automated grub setup? I have'nt had any similar problem with ubuntu.

After trying to fix this manually without results, I went back to ubuntu 8.04

    Second Chapter:

Kubuntu 8.10 it's out, let's go to give it a second chance.

Booted up live cd, my old friend annoying flickering it's still here, ok, let's go install, click! (1 minute waiting...) click (other minute waiting...) click... wtf?? where's my second hard disk?? why it's not at install options? "fdisk -l" ok, it has not gone.

mmmmmmmm let's go boot up with "install option" (before was live cd and then click install), oh ok, here it's my second hd, installing...

first boot up and... yes! it boots up!
hey! wait a minute! where's kubuntu? Grub shows my ubuntu and my xp but not kubuntu!
ok... manually grub editing (definitely kubuntu has a serious problem with grub setup).

well, problem solved, booting up kubuntu, apt-get update, upgrade, install propietary drivers, setup tv card, let's go restart...

yeeessss!! I have kubuntu working, flickering has gone, desktop effects works, tv works, vlc works, apparently everything works! and I have a very nice desktop!

I think this is my new SO, I like it very much, but I think it needs hard work with install proccess, too many problems with this.
