Last nights update - Do I need Scim?

Last nights update was interesting. After it I found the system loaded an application called Scim Manager into the taskbar. No matter what options I chose the system would freeze for about a minute following boot, suddenly unfreeze but then refreeze shortly (20 secs?) later, to require a forced restart of X. Also it appeared to completely knock out networkmanager. Uninstalling Scim fixed it completely.

Do I actually need the program at all? Has anyone else noticed this?

    Thanks

I got the Scim update as well, although I'm not sure why.

I don't have the freeze you describe, but I do have two or three icons related to Scim popping up at a time on my panel. It's pretty irritating and I'm planning to remove it once I determine whether it's necessary.

Glad I'm not the only one.
