      Re: OpenOffice.org 3 packages

I have been using OOo3 for a while now, with the packages available from openoffice.org. It rocks!

Has anyone made a transition from the OOo packages to the ubuntu packages? If so, did you find any actual advantages (apart from integration) in doing so and also were there any issues?

      Thanks

      Ian

Hmmmm. I added the repo and attempted, via apt-get, to upgrade, but I'm not sure what happened:

          Code:
          dibl@ibex:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade

After which Adept popped open and informed me it couldn't get a lock on the packaging system (of course apt-get was still running).

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Gonna try a few experiments.

EDIT: I used Adept Manager and it appeared to find all upgraded packages and install them, and when complete, it reported "successful". After it was finished, as a cross-check, I ran "update" and "dist-upgrade" with apt-get and there were zero new packages to be added, so I'm declaring success.

Yeah I upgraded through Open Office last week. Took some digging around to find the x64 packages but once I found them and followed the instructions it was golden. In fact I even ssh'd into my laptop at work and installed it on there from home I love ssh.

                Re: OpenOffice.org 3 packages

I presume the packages only work correctly as an upgrade from 2.4. I found them extremely odd (eg no icon and when I used tools/options most of the options were missing or defective). That was the same whether I "upgraded" my Sun OOo3 packages or downloaded as new. So, I am sticking with the Sun ones. Work fine for me.

                  Re: OpenOffice.org 3 packages

Thanks, that worked (mostly) well for me.

I'm curious, while running the prior version, I noticed that it would cause portions of my screen where OOo wasn't being displayed to black-out. I assumed this was just a part of me running the beta kde4/intrepid, since I never had that problem with kde3.

I hoped that upgrading OOo might solve that but it still seems to be an issue. Anyone have some about why this might be happening?
