what is the issue with kubuntu and scim?

Scim is the input method comes with CJK language support. When language support is installed, scim will be installed by default.

However, there seems to be serious issues using scim in kubuntu. I had test something else:

    arch+kde+scim, no problem
    opensuse+kde+scim, no problem
    ubuntu+gnome+scim, no problem

kubuntu+kde+scim: there is problem for kubuntu 6.06, 6.10, 7.10, 8.04, 8.10. Yes, feisty 7.04 is the only kubuntu which has no problem with scim out-of-box. 8.10 hangs up after install the language support. 6.06 and 6.10 crashes almost all KDE applications with scim. 7.10 silently ignores all keyboard input after scim installed. 8.04 has serious performance issue when scim is enabled.

many people solve the problem by replace the scim with fcitx, some people use scim-bridge instead of scim.

In 8.04 and 8.10, I can solve the problem by using scim-bridge.

But I am still curious, why is scim have all kinds of problem in kubuntu, while it has no problem at all in ubuntu-gnome, and it has no problem in archlinux+kde and no problem in opensuse+kde?

The scim problem is there, most CJK users may see the problem out-of-box when they install kubuntu. It may have a wrong impression to most new users: kubuntu is a low-quality distribution. (we all know that is wrong.)

Time to dive into scim & kubuntu to see what's the problem?
