Phonon, Amarok, and Streaming to Network??

    Hi there,

I am finding this move to Phonon a tad confusing.

Before upgrading to 8.10 and KDE4, I used to stream amarok to my router (which has a USB port which I attached a sound card and plugged in my stereo).

I did this using EsounD and the Amarok EsounD output plugin from repositories.

Now I have Phonon this doesn't work anymore. I have had a look around the net. Asked on the Amarok forum, but they don't seem to answer a lot of questions there.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? Or where to find out?

How would one stream to a network with Phonon say using VLC (I have tried but it doesn't work). Before, both GStreamer and Xine used to have the appropriate output plugins but now those don't seem to work. I know that you can select the appropriate backend for Phonon (such as Xine) but this doesn't seem to work either.

I like streaming music from my laptop to my stereo. So much so that I would even consider forgoing KDE4 if I have to. Not that I want to.

I would have thought being able to stream to a network etc would be an important and useful feature, so I am sure that it hasn't been forgotten.
