If Enabling Desktop Effects causes Black Screen

If Enabling Desktop effects causes your screen to go black, then you might want to try changing the Compositing type from OpenGL to XRender. It worked for me.

    The composting option is in

System Settings > Desktop > Advanced Options > Composting Type

    Might be worth a shot.

    Cheers

Does anyone know how to change this from cli? this is being typed from Vista & I'm not enjoying it

I think I prefer the Kubuntu black screen over Vista :P

      Hey Cary,

      check out http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...0246#msg150246

There are some details there on how to turn off composting which should help you get back into Kubuntu and up and running. (I am assuming that this is your problem).

I think you could also just delete the kwinrc file and when you boot up again Kubuntu will just make a new one.

      Cheers

Thanks chessmaster Am back on Kubuntu again The 1st one fixed it for me (turning off compositing) Now I have to find why Kubuntu keeps turning off my radio for my wireless.

I don't think I've been this close to a release before with so many problems running around.
