The list of updated packages was very impressive, and so was the result ... a nuked video driver and no sound. Honest -- the sound driver snd-hda-intel that I had carefully inserted in /etc/modules on Sunday was gone after the upgrade. Where did it go -- how did they do that, and leave the coretemp module untouched? :P
Anyway, a reinstall of the Nvidia driver and the sound driver put me back in business, but geeeeeeeeez!I guess I should be glad my computer can't punch me in the face! :-X
