    Re: Vmware Player in Intrepid

    Hi,

I had installed VMPlayer and... errr.... I have no idea what to do next and how to use it. Can you write small 'how to' or tutorial in new topic, what's this actually for and how to use it step by step ?

        Re: Vmware Player in Intrepid

        Hi Fintan

You previously kindly gave me some pointers about VMware player. In Windows I got to the stage where I was going to run the converter but could not create an image which I assume was because I didn't have anywhere with enough space at the time. A couple of points please:

        1. Will the converter method still work with the new version of player?

        2. Will the install routine with this new version get me round the issues I had last time where there was a complaint about VMM modules missing from my kernel?

Sorry if this sounds daft but I would like to seriously evaluate the 2 solutions, and the feedback on the forum suggests that each has its supporters.

        Thanks

          Just for completeness sake:
When you get a kernel upgrade all you have to do is start vmplayer and it will automatically go into reconfigure mode

            Re: Vmware Player in Intrepid

Nice to know. After my kernel upgrade yesterday, my VMware Players 'network' configuration was no more. I reran the .bundle file (2.50), but didn't know all I had to do was to run vmplayer. No matter, there was an update (2.5.1) which I was informed about, so downloaded it and installed.

The new .bundle format sure is nice!

I also got the 2.5.1 update yesterday (64-bit). It's working like a charm -- so much easier than the "vmware-config.pl" kubuki dance in ver. 1.

I'm glad it is working for you.

The virtualbox kernel update has also been impressive. Also, after I tried and failed with (and uninstalled) vmware I had this annoying vmware kernel module which prolonged boot time - it just didn't want to go away. Well, it has now disappeared for good

                    @liquidator Welcome to the party

I haven't tried the update yet, have more pressing things to take care of.

I don't use KVM myself but there seems to be a bug:
