Kubuntu intrepid alpha 5 still kludge

    I installed it, not impressed.
Plenty of kludge in kde4.1.1, the jockey thing crashed all the time, and no password requested for the nv accelerated driver thing.
Could not be done as user.
Tried as root, then the fun really started, tried the second of the 173, 177 driver options, locked me into low res on reboot of 640x180, despite a newish 8600 pcie nvidia card.
The kde configuration is kludge after this too,
one cannot resolve the resolution any higher.
So kde 4.x seems truly a bump on the road, and if this is
the only offering from kde for the future in intrepid, woe is me.
Might have to become a Gnome user, perish the thought,
but it is so far better than kde 4.x
    Guess I could edit X11/xconfig
but could not be bothered at the moment.
    Good night good luck

Have to say that after initial problems and having to reinstall a couple of times, everything is pretty good for me apart from some silly things like trying to put a Firefox icon on the panel. Instead of the usual icon it puts one of a gearwheel which launches Kate instead of Firefox. The actual look and feel are just fantastic and it will only get better.

I think the only way to install nvidia driver is envyng-qt.
