For .run files. Sounds like there might no longer be an nvidia web page for beta drivers... just an announcement in the nvnews forum.

Well I don't know about you guys but X is screwed for me with the new kernel, I tried the beta Nvidia driver & it won't install because it believes I have a Xen kernel (I don't) now when I go back to 27.1 kernel it runs in vesa mode. I dont know how to force the pc to use the Nvidia driver in Kubuntu so I guess I'll download the 177 driver from the nvidia site & try that one. I feel in our progression to the new Xorg we have lost a lot of functionality in that we cant force resolutions in the conf files etc anymore

I must be lucky as my plasma and kwin (no compiz stuff here) are only using ~1 to 2mb each for the most part, no huge spikes as some of you are seeing, though kwin does look to briefly go higher, around 5-7 on my lowly p4-m 2.0 laptop

I Can't fix X in 27.2 kernel but in 27.1 it works fine. I went to the Nvidia settings manager & it told me I wasn't using a Nvidia driver but to execute nvidia-xconfig & then restart X & viola I have full resolution & kwin working again I do have a legacy problem in that my task bar is only 1/2 the screen, I cant find where to stretch it out along the bottom. But eh it works!

BTW theres none of that Gnomish Compiz for me either 8)

Yes, the downloaded 177.70 driver pukes up a "Xen kernel" error and won't finish installing. However, for the first time ever (on my hardware) the Restricted Driver Manager actually worked, and installed the 177.70 driver. Luckily I saved the working xorg.conf file and re-used it, because I don't think the nvidia-xconfig thing is working on this version.

And once again, Alt-F2 worked while kwin was the window manager, but not once compiz started.

I found out how to resize the taskbar just right click on a vacant piece of panel & select edit panel & marker triangles show, then just drag the pane to the desired length.

That's a bit crazy for a dual core CPU running at 3.4GHz! :P

So, with Compiz, I get no Alt-F2 and FF3 behaves badly, freezing and spawning empty windows all over the screen. With Kwin, I get Alt-F2 back, but I have to use 25% of my CPU resources just to run Kwin. Bummer!
