    Realtek 8187/8189 broken after update

    Hi folks.

I recently installed 8.10 on my desktop at home, and much to my surprise, my wireless adapter (Realtek 8187 or 8189; can't remember offhand) worked right out of the box! No ndiswrapper, no hassles - just instant connectivity.

Anyway, earlier this week I updated the machine to all the latest packages, including KDE 4.2. After that process, my wireless connection is now broken.

Is this a known issue? Workarounds?

    Thanks!

try running jockey (hardware manager) should have come with kde 4.2 by default sometimes when you upgrade your kernel you have to re-enable your driver for some of the "restricted" drivers perhaps this is your case..

if you need more info check run "lshw" from the terminal and post the section about your wifi card. from there we can see a bit more of the full picture. if there is no driver for it listed then you may want to try installing one via either a "restricted" driver with jockey as stated above or by using Ndiswrapper (sorry can't help you with that one i have never had a card that needed that)
