    trouble with ethernet connection

Hi, firstly thanks to anyone who offers help or advice!

Secondly I know very little about Linux.

I have a dual boot system with Vista and Kubuntu.
I had Ubuntu before and no prob with connection to internet.

I installed Kubuntu 8.10 to try KDE.
I can connect through wireless but not ethernet cable.
I open knetwork manager and manually enter setting because I have to at this internet cafe.

    I enter the;
    IP address
    Subnet Mask
    Default Gateway
    Primary DNS
    Secondary DNS

Hit next choose auto connect and then hit connect and save but alas nothing happens.

I'm on Hol in the Philippines and was hoping to use this time to wean myself off windows but I have to keep logging in to get info.

Any info would be greatly appreciated but I need it in simple form.
    Thanks!
    Lex

      Thanks!

I saw that page and decided it wasn't for me. If I cant easily switch between wireless and wired I'd rather use windows. Or maybe I'll KDE on Suse.

I don't understand why would they release it if it has such a common problem?

I guess "common" is a matter of perspective -- I have never experienced it in over two years and 4 or 5 different computers.

To quote the page you recommend me to, "Recently there seems to have been a lot of posters with problems getting their internet connection working with a wired connection." A lot or common are similar to me.

          Thanks for you help.

I think applying autoconnect is not enough. I also put that option on, but it doesn't get connected automatically. autoconnect hapens only when we start knetworkmanager(generally knetworkmanager resides in system tray).

So try clicking on the knetworkmanager in system tray and click on ur connection name. hope this works!

Yeah, I did try that also.
              But thanks for the suggestion.
              Cheers
