new wifi usb adapter

I bought my PC a wi-fi usb adapter so I could connect it to my router.

kubuntu won't connect to the internet. in fact I wasn't able to find where do I make it scan the network. when I click on the globe and ask to configure a new network it doesn't show me which networks are present.

The default networkmanager is knetworkmanager. Make sure it is running.

An alternative is wicd which is not installed by default but there is a how to install wicd on this forum.
