    [Solved] No Internet!!!!!!

    i've done a clean install of Intrepid and i can't get connected to the internet. i can't even get into the modem configurations. it used to work well with hardy... i'm connected with an adsl modem with my connection settings (password etc.) set in the modem. i've also tried "sudo pppoeconf" but it doesn't work as well.

    a search in the internet tells me to manually set the ip adress which did not work for me. (actually i'm an idiot at these things, i just set in numbers i found in the modem settings at random. and i'm not even sure if those people are having the same problem) some people said an update will solve the problem but how can i update when i can't connect to the internet? (i'm using windoze now )

    i've also installed the latest daily build of kubuntu intrepid, but still encounter the same problem. so, just this afternoon i tried ubuntu, and i got the same thing as well...

    Have you considered getting a router? Linux works very will with routers, and the router takes care of the negotiations with the ADSL modem.
    Windows no longer obstructs my view.

      Agree with Snowhog. Install a router between your machine and the modem and life will be easier.

        yeah, i've considered getting a router... so, at the mean time i'm doomed??

        anyway, i've searched about my problem in the net using the keyword "Streamyx" (my ISP) and it seems like i'm the only one having this problem??

          What kind of ADSL modem do you have? Are you unable to access the modem setup in your browser? Do you connect to the modem wired or wireless? Can you run the following commands and copy and paste the results in a reply?

            yes, i can't access the modem setup, internet, everything. ping tells me i have no connection

              Is this supposed to be a pppoe connection? If not, it seems your attempt to use the ppoe configuration has messed up your interfaces file. Try to follow the instructions I posted here.

              The address for the interface with your modem is 10.0.0.2 I think. User name should be admin and password should be blank unless you have changed it at some time.

                yeah, i messed up the files due to the copying and pasting of the codes i found on the net previously....
