    Wireless Web Connection via Kubuntu???

I'd like to start out by saying I"m new to the forum and somewhat new to the Linux environment.

If the question below has already been asked or I am placing it in the wrong catagory I apologize.

I have been playing around with the Kubuntu 8.10 on my laptop, I normally access the web via wireless connection. Will my wireless configure and operate through Kubuntu? I know it didnt work initially and I was curious as to whether its a setting or something else need to be installed or configured?

I appreciate any and all assistance in advance.

    Thanks, Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

Welcome to the forum - you'll find lots of useful information here and skilled people willing to help

For what its worth my wireless worked perfectly out of the box. I'd recommend to simply try the live CD/DVD/Flash to see if your hardware is recognized correctly. For me the Knetworkmanager works perfectly with both wired and wireless connections. When your installation is persistent simply tell Knetworkmanager to autoconnect and it will

    Good luck!

It's probably an incompatible wireless card, but not certain. I had a WUSB11V4 Linksys adapter, and there is no direct support for it, but I was able to get it going.

Using the Adept, search for ndiswrapper, which should be version 1.9. You'll see about 4 programs associated with the ndiswrapper, install them all. One of the programs is a nice little utility that helps the process enormously. Bascially, the ndiswrapper allows you to install a windows driver for network devices. So, make sure you download a good copy of your windows drivers, decompressed in a folder in your desktop folder. The utility sits in the program menu, but I can't remember which directory it stuck it in. It say's something like Windows adapter installer or something like that. Click on it, and it will ask for a location of the driver. It's looking for the core inf windows driver file, not the autorun.inf file. I used an XP driver, and it's working fine.

        Good luck!

Re: Wireless Web Connection via Kubuntu

I have had no problems with a wireless connection with KNetwork Manager, on Hardy or Intrepid.

I use an Atheros wireless card, which requires manual installation of the drivers.
