Samba not linking since 8.10 install

    Hello,

Has anyone else had any trouble with Samba shares not linking or at least not sharing files since installing 8.10? After opening the file manager and go to network I see Network services Samba Shares and Add network Icons, I then click on Samba Shares then workgroup and can see my 1 Windows Xp box and the 3 Ubuntu boxes but the Ubuntu boxes have a page with a large blue question mark if I click on either icon i get a blank page and down at the bottom of the dialog box a message No Items,No Folders, No Files. The other boxes are running 8.04 Kubuntu and 8.04 Xubuntu. I can see the XP files from Kubuntu box but no Kubuntu or Xubuntu files. Is this another 8.10 quirk or has someone else found this and figured out a workaround? Any help will be very much appreciated.

Samba has not been working for me also since 8.10 with a fresh install. Has anyone encountered this and resolved the problems? If so, would you kindly post the steps you took to resolve?

I had to install the samba package on 8.10 (it is not installed by default):

      sudo apt-get install samba

I also made sure my user was part of the sambashare group.

      Then everything worked just fine.
