I installed Kubuntu 8.10 on my laptop and am using the Broadcom STA drivers for my wireless card. They work great so far and I am able to connect to networks that I can see just fine. Trouble is, the network manager plasmoid thing that is installed by default does not show all the wireless networks in range of my laptop. I am at work right no and there are about 4 networks in range but when I am at home there are tons of them in range and mine does not show up in the network manager app, even though I am sitting 5 feet from the router. I tried 'sudo iwlist scanning' and was able to see my network along with others that are not showing up in the network manager app. Any suggestions on what I can try?

Re: Default KDE4 Network Manager app does not see all wireless networksin range
If you configured your wireless router not to broadcast your SSID, that would explain why you aren't seeing it.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Re: Default KDE4 Network Manager app does not see all wireless networksin range
It is not configured that way. I can see my network using 'iwlist scanning', along with a bunch of others that do not show up in the network manager. I use the same encryption here that I do at work (WPA2 Personal) and am able to connect at work. The reason I can connect at work is because the network app allows me to see all the networks in range since there are only about 4 in range at work. I live in an apartment complex where if I boot my laptop into windows, or run iwlist scanning in the terminal, I can see about 30 networks. Only about 15 show up in the app. I can also connect to it with Mandriva 2009 on the same laptop, if that helps. If that means I simply need to try a different app, could someone tell me which package(s) to remove and what to try out as a replacement.

Try wicd - it removes knetwork. It has it's own repositorydeb http://apt.wicd.net intrepid extraswget -q http://apt.wicd.net/wicd.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -"A problem well stated is a problem half solved." --Charles F. Kettering
