Wifi can see router but wont connect

    Hi,

I have recently upgraded from hardy to intrepid.

With hardy my wifi worked perfectly straight out the box.

Since the upgrade to intrepid it wont connect.

I can see my router plus several neighbors ones, it shows the signal strength as well.

But it wont connect! Im haveing to use a wired connection at the mo which isnt great on a laptop!

What information do i need to give to help diagnose this problem?

    Many thanks
    Mike

This may be a bit out of "left field" but I was at my son's house this morning waiting for a service repair man...parents have their uses!

He has a BT HomeHub as his wired and wireless router that I set up for him a couple of weeks ago. He's running Kubuntu 8.04 so has KDE3.*.*. All went well and I made a note of the WPA key.

This morning I booted his computer, found the note on his desktop with the key and then made a copy on my own machine. Then went to KnetworkManager, found all the local wireless networks, selected his and then copied and pasted the key.

Would not connect. I spent an hour fiddling around with no joy so started out from scratch but this time I physically typed the key. Guess what........immediate connection!

Do you all have atheros cards in your computers "ath0"

I had the exact same symptoms, and ended up having to pull out my atheros card and put the broadcom card back in and it works.

I know there are workarounds for atheros, but it makes me angry that something that simply worked out of the box since at least Ubuntu 6.06 does not seem to.

hi to all. this is my first post here. i'm enrico and write from italy.

i've got a similar problem on the sony vaio wgn21z of my girlfriend.
i use kubuntu since 6.10, and i don't have the wifi connection at home...

i installed yesterday kubuntu 8.10 on that laptop.

always is ok, but i cant connect to the router/modem adsl.

i added a new wlan connection in knetworkmanager with essid e wpa or wep key.
the connection is up and signal at 100%, but locked, and there's no way to unlock it.
knetworkmanager shows the locked simbol on the list of wlan connection available.

the wifi card is up and ok...ani ideas?
