8.10 Beta Trying to get network. (RTL 8139)

Seems like now network will be configured using NetworkManager? When I open System Settings>Network Settings I can't set network settings. Also NetworkManager don't work. 'kcontrol' a.k.a. KDE Control Center doesn't exist, but help show's that it does o.O

Simple question > I have updated to 8.10 beta > how do I get my network working?

Make sure you don' t have this problem before you spend too much time. If you have an Intel Gigibyte ethernet chip, you're not going to have ethernet until the 2.6.27-5 kernel is relessed into the repo and incorporated into the daily build images.

Sorry but I'm not a pro with Linux. All I know is that I have Realtek 100/1000mbps Ethernet. Do I need to run some command so I can determine my chipset...?

I guess new kernel version could take months? Or how long?

p.s. If I want to go back, the only way is to reinstall without a formating ?

No, Realtek is not affected by the e1000e problem, AFAIK. I just wanted to be sure you weren't on a wild goose chase with no solution.

It's unusual for Linux to have a problem like that. If I were you, I'd download the 8.10 ISO and burn a Live CD, and boot that. You should be able to open Konqueror and go straight to Google.com. All with no changes to your real system. Here's the latest daily build of 8.10:

Looks like a new build as of today -- give it a shot.

Check the md5sum of your downloaded ISO, and then burn is at 4X, and "DAO" mode if you have it.

If it works real well, we can talk about how to preserve your data and install the new OS.

when i first pluged in my ethernet cable on my laptop w/ 8.10 it did not autoconnect.
due to my routers settings (dhcp is off), if you have a similar setup and you need to manually set the network setting, knetworkmanager is the place to do this as well as connect to a wifi network
