    koffice-data-kde4 and kde-icons-oxygen (SOLVED)

Each of these two packages (in title) have the same icon in them. I've tried removing the koffice package but it won't let me because kdebase-runtime needs kde-icons-oxygen to be installed... which can't be installed because it's trying to overwrite something that's in koffice-data-kde4....

It's a huge circle that's making updating everything else next to impossible... here's what happens with a sudo apt-get upgrade

    kevin@324u:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdebase-runtime: Depends: kde-icons-oxygen (>= 4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1~intrepid2) but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.
    kevin@324u:~$ sudo apt-get autoremove
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done

using -f on upgrade, install, remove.... has not worked at all. I've even gone to the directory and deleted the actual png file it says it's trying to overwrite... which has not helped..

    Please help

    Re: koffice-data-kde4 and kde-icons-oxygen - Please help.

it gets better... now after having done some updates I'm having the no KDM problem that lots of other people have had... but I can't fix anything because of the dependency issues....

      Re: koffice-data-kde4 and kde-icons-oxygen (SOLVED)

Strangely enough, my loss of KDM led me to the fix!

Since I had no KDM I log into Vista to look at the solutions on the board for that and found http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3101907.0 which told me to start the system in Recovery Mode.

One of the options in recovery is to fix broken packages.. which I have tried to do using -f, adept, synaptic several times to no avail. But why not right? I checked it and it went to work. It must have SUPER-root privileges because it did what I couldn't do for the last hour or so. (this problem has existed for a number of weeks now.. just got time to deal with it today)

Once it was done installing kde-icons-oxygen it did an "autoremove" of sorts and then I was able to choose a login prompt where I was able to install KDM. Reboot and here I am back up and working!!

      YAY!
