I installed Ubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4. I've since upgraded KDE to 4.2. I also have installed Gnome and I'm using kdm as my login manager. I notice when I log into KDE 4.2 that my gnome wallpaper briefly flashes up. When KDE 4.2 logs in, it starts to load all the desktop applets and then it loads the autostart programs and the screen refreshes when the screen refreshes the gnome wallpaper is displayed and then I see the KDE desktop. Is this normal? I have problems logging out so I wonder if this is related.

Re: Gnome wallpaper flashes on KDE 4.2 login
I see something very similar with my Kubuntu 8.10 KDE 4.2 system. When I first log in the KDE startup splash screen and animation comes up as expected. About halfway through the startup animation the kdm login splash screen reappears briefly, then back to the startup animation.
AFAICT it doesn't hurt anything, but I'll bet that's not what is supposed to happen.
linux since slack 2. kde since beta 1. kubuntu since hardy.
