How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP
    (lots of examples here)

Never messed with XP's boot setup, but I see folks doing it all the time.

Thanks a lot for your search

The XP boot loader is fine, I noticed there's a reference to BCDEDIT.exe that's Vista loader (I assume Seven loader is the same), so I googled it and maybe I've found something.
Thanks also for SGD, I'm going to read about it, maybe it could be helpful too.

          Re: Overwriting existing dual boot

Thanks for your links, I think I solved all this.
I've found that there's a sort of "recovery boot" inside seven/vista disk, that with the command
          [DVD Drive Letter]:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force
          reset to previous boot loader.
And this didn't affect Grub, so all seems to work.

Thank you very much for following me during all this.

            This is a handy reference:

I think it would explain how to use the Vista facility to edit the Vista boot menu and maybe, therefore, 7, assuming 7 drops one like Vista. What is apparent is that problems with 7 booting are all over the Net. How much simpler GRUB is.

            Glad you got yours fixed.
