Re: Installation fails: is it my video card?

Very interesting - thanks. Still, I'm not sure how I'd get to the point of installing this new driver; I'm unable to install Kubuntu even from the alternative, text-based iso (see previous post).

I was planning on taking dibl's advice and giving Sidux a try. However, if this is a potential fix to my original problems with Kubuntu, I'd much prefer to take that route!

    Recommendations anyone?

This error suggest a problem reading the CD. I know you were careful to use DAO mode and set the speed at 4X, right? You might want to give it one more try -- maybe even use a different PC to burn the ISO image to the CD.

That's settled as far as I'm concerned then:

I'll first attempt to burn Kubuntu again and install the latest video drivers via the console.

If that fails, I'll test the waters with Sidux.

If I encounter insurmountable hurdles with Sidux, I'll put a fresh install of Vista on (I am due to obtain a licence key from my University MSDN-AA account tomorrow) in a bid to rid myself of the bloat installed on this system.

I hope it doesn't transpire that I'll have to hang up my Linux boots until it's time for a new computer, and that's partly due to the community support I've received on this forum. Thanks for everyone's help.
