    Solved Boot Splash screen problem

I made a number of partition changes to two of the three drives I have to include resizing
the swap partition. Now when I boot the splash screen starts and then the boot drops
back to a text screen and appears to boot normally. I made the changes with a live cd
and fixed fstab when I booted back to Kubuntu. I've searched alot and checked lots
but no luck returning the splash to normal operation. As far as I can determine everything
    else is working fine.

I would appreciate any info that might point me in the right direction.

    Thanks for any info.

Are you referring to the Grub boot splash image?

I reckon he is talking about the usplash image - the one with the moving bar, right?

First check whether you have the words "quiet splash" at the end of your grub kernel stanza. If you do and you still get lots of useful info on the boot process flashing you by that you do not want to read (sorry, couldn't resist that one ) the absolute simplest way of getting it back is to remove usplash and reinstalling it again. That or update your initramfs manually.

It is the usplash boot splash that is not working. I tried the
suggestion of uninstalling usplash and then reinstalling it
but that didn't change anything. 'All that useful information'
flying past does make it slightly faster! Everything else works
so its not too important but if you have any other ideas
I'd be grateful. I'd try your second suggestion but the uninstall/
        reinstall appeared to do that.

This is what fixed the problem. Now I can break something else!!

Yep, initramfs would have been regenerated by a reinstall of usplash. Different route, same result.

Glad you got it working again, though.

Could I ask you to mark this a SOLVED.

            Thanks
