Hi all!
I recently upgraded my KUbuntu from 8.04 to 8.10. I'm having a few teething pains but I am working through them on my own. However I have a problem that I have been stuck with from the beginning that I am unable to solve by myself so I figured it is time to reach out to the community for help.
I've searched the forums here and Google for people having the same troubles but have not found anything.
I can't log out, shutdown or restart from inside KDE. I click on the KMeun and select the 'Leave' tab then select either of the three options I mentioned and nothing happens. The menu disappears but nothing else. The system is still running. It's as if I didn't do anything. If I press ALT+F2 to bring up the application launcher and type 'logout', for example, it will show the log out icon. Selecting it has the same result as going through the menu: nothing. CTRL+ALT+DELETE does nothing.
There is nothing of relevance in my .xsession-errors file. Nothing in dmesg. Nothing in the Xorg log file. Nothing.
I can use CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to kill Xorg taking me back to KDM where shutdown and restart do work properly. However this has the drawback of not saving my session when I log out. And it feels like a kludge.
I'm out of ideas on where to look. Can someone give me a clue as to where to look / what to do to get this working?
Thanks,
Andrew
