    installation XP over kubuntu, possible?

ok, i know there are a lot of posts on dual boot.

    but I can't find a proper answer: can I install XP32bit in a system kubuntu 8.10 64bit? the current sys has a 1TB hdd w/o partition.

    thanks

I'm sure it's possible. But I can't think of a harder approach to getting it done -- can you back up your data and start over? It would be WAY simpler to do this:

    1. Partition the hard drive with GParted (4 partitions; 1 for Win XP, one for Linux swap, one for Linus OS, one for Linux /home).
    2. Install Win XP on the first partition.
    3. Install Kubuntu.

Dual booting, and the correct boot menu, will be automatically set up if you do it this way. Starting from where you are now is going to be a real Kubuki dance -- you and Qqmike will become best friends before it's over (if you're still speaking ...).

I did it without problems. Here's the guide I followed.

That's a great link, Floyd! I'm going to add it to the "Top 20".

FYI, just today I set up Win XP and Linux on a new computer, following my 1-2-3 sequence above, and I still claim it's the most straightforward and automatic -- took maybe 3 hours to get it all working with drivers and configuration stuff. But you're right, according to this guide it's not that bad to start with Linux and add the Win XP afterward.

        Thanks!
