xorg fails after nvidia enabling. How to reconfigure from console ?

Hi,

I am lost, X.org stopped working after enabling the nvidia drivers. I thought I'd be able to reconfigure xorg using sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg but the resulting xorg.conf file has got very few sections but crucially, dpkg doesn't ask any question !

What is the way to go in this situation ? Is there a configuration tool that I can use from the console ?
