Filesystem corrupted after a failded upgrade to intrepid

    Hi to all,
yesterday I've tried the upgrade from 8.04 (with kde 3.5) to 8.10.
I've used the automatic tool. It disabled some third parties repository (wine and mediabuntu) and downloaded all the packges but then it crasched during the configuration leaving the system in an unusable state with the filesystem corrupted (I had to use fsck -a to fix it but at the end I found a lot of files in lost+found).
So I had to reinstall the disk image I had made before starting the upgrade.
    Now the questions are:
    1) How can I upgrade in a safer way?
    2) Is it better to use the manual procedure described here:
    http://pollycoke.net/2008/04/28/aggi...uto-di-ubuntu/ ?
3a) Since I have some packages installed from stand alone packages, should I remove them before upgrading?
3b) If so, how can I find all the packages that need to be removed (I supposed that the update program was able to take care of such files automatically)?
    Thank you for your help,
    Xwang

    Someone can help me?
Is there a way to identify packages installed via checkinstall or stand alone .deb files?
    Moreover this is my sources.list:

    Code:

why don't apper wine and medibuntu third party repositories (which are selected in the adept third party software page)?

    Thank you,
