[SOLVED] keyboard shortcuts set up for application programs don't work

In an earlier thread [http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...pic=3100209.0] I clarified how to set up keyboard shortcuts for some of my applications, in my new KB 8.10 install.

They don't work - any of them. I cannot discover any reason for this. Is this a known problem with 8.10 (no on mentioned it in the earlier thread) or have aliens taken over my computer again?

All thoughts welcome...(well, maybe not ALL).

Global application shortcuts don't work properly in KDE 4.1. Seems fixed in 4.2.

Ah...I thought something like this had to going on. Tks for the update.

This isn't a 'hot' issue, not with me anyway. Just a convenience.

Any idea when 4.2 will be issued to us serfs?

I'm fairly confident 4.2 will be be backported to intrepid when it's released in January. 4.2.x will definitely be in Jaunty.

You can already install 4.2 beta 1 (beta 2 upcoming) on intrepid, see instructions at http://www.kubuntu.org/node/58. Normal Beta disclaimers apply, but IMO it's better than 4.1 already.

Ah...thanks! I have to be enthusiastic about KDE 4.1. I did NOT like those damn flying windows, but quickly found how to shut it off. It was making me slightly nauseated (I'm extremely myopic, so my optical correction sets me up not to do well with excessive lateral movement). All else is FINE. It's quickly, better organized, nicer to look at. So...I'll be interested to see 4.2.

Thanks for the help and info.!
