Hibernation

I recently upgraded from 8.4 to 8.10. I have a Gateway T-Series 1610.

Under 8.4 hibernated perfectly (though it did not suspend). After the upgrade, I have everything working fine, but the hibernation fails. Instead I get the message:

"softreset failed (device not ready)"

Then the machine turns off. On resumption, I get the message

"waking up Please wait . . "

But it is stuck and will not resume.

Any ideas anyone?

If it is really important to you the easiest way by far is to go back to 8.04

Other than that I would

a) google ubuntu, your laptop and hibernate to see what others have found out/experienced
b) look at the system logs after you attempted to hibernate and google any pertinent entries
