Package kcontrol is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
kdebase-workspace-bin kdelibs4c2a
E: Package kcontrol has no installation candidate

Re: KControl
This is all I care to say wrt to this, having resisted up 'til now: it's quite a major paradigm shift coming into the new 8.10 + KDE; not the Windows-like Desktop thingy that was a key lure in getting many of us here in the first place; I have advanced degrees in pure mathematics, but I'm finding some internal resistance to this required environmental shift in the world view here; I hope in a few months that I feel foolish and naive and out-of-control for posting this, and that I come to see the computing experience through the eyes of 8.10+KDE4.x. There, said. In particular, as a corollary, ditto for this cowboy wrt losing kcontrol ... (a sound bite from an old, retired Navy, Australian drinking buddy comes to mind: "Better than a sharp stick in the eye, mate!" well, that it is, for sure )

Re: KControl
"The problem is that the Luddite blood flows strongly in some of us."
Exactly so and well put (a good term you used there--and thanks for the link explaining it).
Problem is there are too many changes too fast; not enough hours in the day to keep up with everything.
We are going to get blasted for going way off topic here ...
(actually it's a testament to just how right-on Dart's topic really is!)
