Software repository not seeing my installation CD

    Hey All,
I am new to the Kubuntu community. I've messed around with linux for a few years now, but never seriously.
I really want to get my system setup with Kubuntu or Ubuntu so I can migrate from Windows in the near future.

I have tired installing Kubuntu 8.10 multiple times so far.
The installation goes perfect and I can log into Kubuntu normally.

    1) My first issue is I am trying to add my live CD to the repositories sources list.
When I place the disk in the DVD drive it mounts fine. I can browse the disk normally.
I tick the check box by the CD when adding repositories, and it asks me for the CD.
The correct disk is already in the drive but when I click Ok I get an error that no CD is available.

    2) My second issue is my wireless device. It's the Dell 1505 Draft 802.11N
I know to use the XP driver bcmwl5.inf because I have successfully setup the device with Ubuntu 8.04
I need NDISWRAPPER to get the ball rolling with my wireless device. I want to install it from the CD though.
Can't do that if I can't use the CD to add the ndiswrapper software.
    ***NOTE: I could add the CD in 7.04, 7.10, & 8.04 (Ubuntu & Kubuntu)***

    See my problem?
(I know I could just plug into my internet connection with the ethernet port,
but I want to do it without being hard-wired).

Anyone else having this issue with the CD not being recognized by the Repo thing?

    Below are my system specs:

Re: Software repository not seeing my installation CD

Unless you are using a dial-up connection I wouldn't bother about adding the CD to your repositories list as all the files contained on the CD will be contained in the basic repositories added when you installed. Within a few days of install your CD will become out of date as a repository, given all the updates happening soon after release.

NDISwrapper should be available in the repositories.

Don't try to mix the repositories from different versions as you will end up with dependency issues.

Re: Software repository not seeing my installation CD

      Understood.
I checked the software available by default and I can't find NDISWRAPPER in the list at all.
My goal was to simply install it from the Kubuntu 8.10 Live CD.
Once I have that squared away, I can install my wireless device and update the rest of the system with
"up to date" packages from the normal repositories.
I had no intention on using an older disk as a repo disk.
Also... I want to get this online without hardwiring via ethernet.

      Any other tips?
