Upgrade doesn't work properly

I've tried to upgrade from 8.04.1 multiple times and it fails each time. I get error messages about ACPID, Boinc-Manager, update-manager and a few other packages that can't be upgraded. I also loose my network connections after the upgrade (Wired: Broadcom NetExtreme BCM5752 and Wireless: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG).

Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong or what I can do to fix the upgrade?

Will do. I take it when it asks if I want to download the most current packages, I should say NO, correct?
