After upgrading my old desktop icons were in a window on the desktop. I closed the window by accident and now can not get it to appear again. How do I do make it appear again?

Right-click desktop -> Unlock Widgets (if necessary)
Right-click desktop -> Add Widgets... select Folder View and hit Add Widget (or simply drag it to the desktop).
You can then configure it to show the desktop folder or any folder of your choosing. -
