    AMD64 locks up in less than 10 minutes after logging in.

    I am likely the only person to be running an AMD 64 machine with a NVIDIA GeForce 3800 card, but KDE 4 locks up within 10 minutes after logging in and I have to do a hard reboot.

    I did a clean install, allowing it to format all partitions, and it still does this (as my first thought was it was trying to use a KDE3 theme in KDE4, but that didn't matter).

    Anyone else experience this? To me it seems this is still way too Beta for real-time use.

    Sorry, I was very tired when I wrote this, I have a GeForce 7800 GT, not a 3800.

    Either way, it keeps locking up, any ideas? I do have 3 GB of DDR 400 and a 3.0 Ghz processor, so I definitely meet the requirements.

      Try installing the Nvidia driver using this method:

        I'll take a look at that when I get home tonight, however, I did try installing envy before I formatted the drive again and it couldn't find the package.

        I double checked all of the apt/sources were uncommented.

          I meant to also say envy-ng, envy-qt, and envy-core. I tried them all, same error that it couldn't find the package.

              Thank you for pointing that out. Just proof I was dead tired last night *sigh*, if only apt-get install envy-core would have stated "Did you mean envyng-core" instead of Package not found. :-P

              Hopefully, this works, I'll post back in about 30 minutes once I know for sure.

                Okay, Intrepid Ibex works on my machine now and KDE 4 is playing nicely. Thanks dibl
