Updating 8.04 (KDE 3.5.9) and KDE Remix Without Upgrading?

I downloaded and played with kubuntu-kde4-desktop. I used the remix from 'deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu hardy main' and used the version fresh from the default repos on another install. I added all the goodies I could find for it. I've been trying it out for about a month and really tried to like it but have come to the conclusion that it just isn't for me.

I thank the high heavens I never went ahead and tried installing it right over my KDE3 installation. I've read that once you do this, there is almost no turning back without a backup. I am graciously thankful I had the opportunity to test it out and I need to thank all of the developers from all across the board for a peek into the future of KDE. The current version found in Kubuntu 8.10 though just isn't for me but I'd like to stay on top of the latest updates.

I understand KDE4 is the default desktop for 8.10. I really do not want to go about *replacing* my beloved 3.5.9. Can I update to 8.10 without wrecking 3.5.9 and/or my home directory or default desktop? I would just like to stay with the latest updates and understand 3.5.9 has about a year of life left to it. Do I simply remain with my 8.04 repos and all is well OR do I need to upgrade my repos for the latest updates?

I would just like to wait for the next version of KDE4 before again thinking about finally upgrading desktops. Any thoughts?

I've got Hardy 3.5.10 (you might want to update your 3.5.9) as the default OS, and Intrepid as an alternative, (as well as XP for when i feel like playing games ) and i happily admit that i like Intrepid and KDE 4.x, but i'm going to stick with KDE 3 if for no other reason than i actually prefer it.

KDE 3 does all that i want; i can build web-pages, write documents, play music, watch my favourite porn videos, films, etc., etc., and the KDE 4.x desktop doesn't actually do anything other than this for me.
That should not be seen as a criticism of the developers. It is merely my opinion.

It doesn't harm to wait, and someone was talking about a repository for those who wish to retain the KDE 3 desktop (mad scientist... i think)

Sorry, 3.5.10 is what I have... heh, blabbermouth with a stink of dragon poo... I read several articles about the upgrade but none ease the mind about *so, you want to stick with KDE3 _but_ you'd like to upgrade everything? here's how*. I am not sure if it is implied but no article actually said, to stick with 3.5.10 and get the latest updates for it and kubuntu-kde4-desktop, simply stick with the Hardy repos.

So I am a bit lost. I am guessing until official word is out about how to upgrade or get the latest updates without *overwriting/destroying* KDE3 with KDE4 I'll leave my Hardy repos alone for now. Is there an official method for updating/upgrading my applications (those included in kubuntu-kde4-desktop) without actually making the leap to KDE4?

Heh, funny thing is, I was actually going over the Kubuntu Intrepid release page and saw a banner for KDE4 that says "Don't Look Back". From what I gathered from all my reading I started laughing because in a sense the slogan should probably be "Can't Go Back". Heh, all is well. I love Kubuntu.
