how do i downgrade from the cli

can i downgrade from 8.10 to 8.04? can i do this from the cli, or should i download it to a cd?

I'm pretty sure you would need a cd to do this since the repositories are all hosting 8.10 packages, I'm guessing.

because 8.10 is not working. i can type a password in, watch the kde boot screen for a moment, then it locks. if i switch over to the cli, and wait for the kde to finish without watching it, i get to the desktop. i can click around for a moment, and then it locks. i still have mouse control, but nothing happens. doesn't seem to be a solution around here for this problem.
