    Partitioning help

    Hello,

I'm still new to linux and still unsure of how it's partitioning works. I previously had Opensuse on my machine and would like to try out Kubuntu now. Now when I try to install the automatic partioning wants to share the partitions with suse however I would just like to delete suse and use that space for kubuntu as well. The only way to do so it looks is to manually do it. I tried to just delete the partitions and then go back to the previous menu to automatically do it but it doesn't work that way I guess. How should I set up my new partitions? I tried setting up one primary Ext3 and one swap partition but it says I don't have a root. Not exactly sure what I'm doing so I'm going to ask for help.

As far as I know, most automatic-partition tool sucks, the one comes with ubuntu just sucks more.

Learn to manually partition and it would be far easier than you'd expected.

You have done the right thing as to create one ext3 and one swap, what you need to do next is to set the mount point of your ext3 partition as root (i.e. the '/' dir),

If you want to resize your ntfs partition in order to give more space to Linux, then you'd need the "GParted-LiveCD" (google and download and burn it). If you don't need to touch your ntfs partition at all, the partition tool included with ubuntu installer is enough.
