xserver will not start - no screens found.

My upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 seemed to go flawlessly, however, xorg will not start. Claims no screens found. The log says no device found.

Tried dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but that was worse, xserver just seg faults.

ATI chipset, used to use the fglrx driver with no problem.

    Help please.

I hope you've got this solved by now, but in case you haven't, it seems fglrx is broken for some people and no one has figured it out yet. I, like others, am using the open source drivers in the meantime. In /etc/X11/xorg.conf, change driver from "fglrx" to "radeon" or "ati." Oh yeah, and you have to totally remove the fglrx driver first for this to work.
