    Re: Don't like kernel 2.6.27-5-generic

For those who may be affected, i just up-dated ~30Mb, a lot seemed to be kde-desktop (or similar) and i noticed that at one point it read: ..."compiz replaced"....
    This may be good news.

But even after a re-boot, everything was still dreadfully slow in starting.

    Edited to add:

I forgot to mention, i tried to change the wallpaper, but got a lock-up when i tried to apply another, which refused to be applied....

      Re: Don't like kernel 2.6.27-5-generic

I had to re-install my video driver and sound driver after yesterday's updates -- you might want to try that for those KDM/KDE problems.

        Re: Don't like kernel 2.6.27-5-generic

My video and sound drivers are generic so nothing fancy there.

What I can't get my brain around is this bit (example) for non-kde apps:
        fintan1@fintanws2:~$ thunderbird
        Cannot mix incompatible Qt libraries
        Aborted (core dumped)
        fintan1@fintanws2:~$
HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
        4 GB Ram
        Kubuntu 18.10

I don't run T-bird. VMware Player and Firefox don't do any such thing, however.

            Another day anothers upgrades:

            kdebase-runtime 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu3
            kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu3
            kdebase-runtime-data-common 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu3
            kdebase-runtime-data 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu3
            +
            110 M updates
            Are these helping ?

            Aborted (core dumped)
Do you get more information if you launch: apport/apport-qt

            apport
automatically generate crash reports for debugging
apport automatically collects data from crashed processes and
compiles a problem report in /var/crash/. This utilizes the crashdump
helper hook provided by the Ubuntu kernel.
            apport-qt
Qt4 frontend for the apport crash report system
After "White Screen of Death" I: Alt + F2 and /usr/share/apport/apport-qt => Information to the Bug report.
            Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?

              Re: Don't like kernel 2.6.27-5-generic

Can this new kernel be causing my extreme screen flickering? It wasn't really all that bad until the more recent kernels and the display card is Intel. I wonder. I might try Ubuntu to see if it does the same.

                I just installed intrepid from:
                http://www.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu...nstaller/i386/
on another partition. FF and TB, etc work okay.

On my "old" updated II I still get this
                fintan1@fintanws2:~$ thunderbird
                Cannot mix incompatible Qt libraries
                Aborted (core dumped)
                fintan1@fintanws2:~$
for FF and any other non-kde app.

                I saw new upgrades:
The following NEW packages will be installed:
                linux-headers-2.6.27-6 linux-headers-2.6.27-6-generic
                linux-image-2.6.27-6-generic linux-restricted-modules-2.6.27-6-generic
The following packages will be upgraded:
                apport apport-qt binutils binutils-static dbus dbus-x11 initscripts
                libdbus-1-3 libenchant1c2a libpq5 libvolume-id0 linux-generic
                linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic linux-restricted-modules-common
                linux-restricted-modules-generic python-apport python-problem-report sysv-rc
                sysvinit-utils udev ufw update-notifier-kde

will try that on my "old" II and see what happens

You don't have any "extra" repositories in your sources, do you Fintan? It's odd that "incompatible libraries" would have been somehow installed -- almost sounds like a package manager problem, doesn't it?

The net-boot beta is running fine, but I won't be updating that for a bit, maybe after final.

I don't thnk so. it is the repos for the neon nightly kde4 svn (now kde4.2) and installs into a different place (can't remember right now) and sets up a .kde-neon in /home/username so it shouldn't affect intrepid. At least it hasn't until yesterday.

                          Sorry Rog:
                          Code:

I'm getting apport-qt crashes this morning (twice, so far). The last time, it reported knetwork manager crashed, then apport-qt itself crashed. But my system seems to be holding together.
