    Don't like kernel 2.6.27-5-generic

Just did a upgrade to the newest kernel. Mistake.
    Blew my lovely desktop apart.

renameing .kde was of no help. Firefox, TB, etc doesn't start. Multirow taskmanager (which I loved) crashes plasma, panels don't keep thier settings (taskbar, systray, app icons).

    amarok-nightly-kde works nicely though

Booting with the .4 kernel makes no difference.

I hope I am alone with this-

    I hope you are too!

Having been a victim of the e1000e blacklist, I had no choice but to install a new system and the 2.6.27-5 kernel. But it seems to be solid as a rock -- really nice and stable. You might want to try it as a new install instead of an upgrade, since everything is broken anyway. :P

      Thankx dible, I probably will.

I am just lazy and amarok-nightly-kde is doing fine up until now

And I have some work to get done.

        Re: Don't like kernel 2.6.27-5-generic

With the 2.6.27-5 i don't get to the desktop. My screen is powering down if i try to boot with the kernel 2.6.27-5-generic.

...and with the 2.6.27-4-generic plasma is dying to the "White Screen of Death"

        Crash report: /usr/share/apport/apport-qt is telling
plasma crashed with SIGSEGV in Plasma::Corona::loadLayout()

          Bummer!

@Rog, did you try to boot a Live CD in F4 > Safe Graphics mode, from the 6 OCT daily build?

I can only boot in Safe Graphics mode until I install the Nvidia driver on mine.

              Re: Don't like kernel 2.6.27-5-generic

              As Fintan tells:
Multirow taskmanager (which I loved) crashes plasma
It seems that multirow taskmanager is the key - Removing kde directory and starting from the scratch - > multirow taskmanager is crashing plasma.

Hmm - there are new versions of the:
              kdebase-plasma
              kdebase-workspace-bin
              libplasma2
              + more
              maybe... updating...

                Multirow task manager
I'm not familiar with that -- how are you doing that? (Not that I'll try it anytime soon!)

                Thanks!

                  Just did that.

FF, TB, etc still don't load and plasma does not keep configurations (placements of widgets, panels, etc)

Haven't done anything with the desktop (plasma) yet.
                  Will play with it later.

                  Edit:
                  Multirow taskmanager?:

I've sent in some crash reports tonight....

I was hoping that re-booting may sort things out - but still managed to file another.

So i'm back to 3.5.9 for now, but i may pop back there later and maybe try the Gnome desktop....

... i will tell you if it crashes.

Nope. White screen with original .kde.

New .kde gives me the same as above
