Kubuntu won't start up on my laptop

I've used kubuntu for couple of weeks now, but now something weird happned.
Kubuntu starts to boot, shows the loader, but then screen just goes black and i cant do anything.
And a blue light will start to blink on my laptop. Displaying a lock with a letter A on it.

Does anybody know why this happens?

have you tried hooking a monitor to the laptops VGA port to see if its displaying there if,this has happened to me on my laptop but only when i am trying to get my video cards driver installed.
