Alright, So I recently reformated my computer, and with that a whole slew of problems arose. Some of which I was able to solve.
My main problems now are 1) wireless, which I can easily solve, and 2) A video problem that I partially solved last time (I got it to be working, but not well)
First this is what my system is:
Gateway 320M
Processor is an Intel Celeron M
I have 1 GB of RAM
I have a 1.75 GB of SWAP
Graphics card is an Intel Chipset
Running Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
Problem:
I have everything working, except when I play a video. Once I start to play a video of any kind my screen goes black, and I have to do a hard restart. Someone told me before to use a bigger swap, which I did this time at the expense of my Windows partition (which doesn't really matter to me). I'm using 1024x768 resolution as I did with 8.04, which had no problems.
What I have tried so far:
1) lowering screen resolution. Result: same as before, screen blacks out in a few seconds of playing a video
2) turning off all effects. Result: same as before.
3) different media players. Result: same as before for all tested, players include: Kaffeine, Dragon, VLC, MPlayer.
Please help, Right now it doesn't matter if I have to downgrade. But I like the set up of KDE 4.1 now, so I'd prefer not to. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
