    Re: New Nvidia Graphics Card

Sorry to interrupt but I have an installation/configuration question:

I was wondering if the proprietary Nvidia install (this uses the Nvidia installer) removes the previous (would then be current) video driver? Assuming that it is:
    A) Nvidia driver default install aka already installed via repositories and probably on the LiveCD OR downloaded from the repositories or one of the repositories that can fetch the driver
    OR
    B) a previous proprietary Nvidia driver and now the user is UPGRADING to a newer version of the driver

I have the impression that you HAVE TO MANUALLY remove or uninstall the driver. Even if you don't have to, it might be safer to do so and ensure a smooth install?

But, I CAN'T find any howto for this. Is there a specific one for Ubuntu/Kubuntu? I have read some instructions or methods that seem to be this type of 'driver removal' on the Debian forum but I think a K/Ubuntu one might be slightly different?

Regardless, can anyone provide the instructions or methods?

I prefer two methods that consist of the 'CLI way' and 'GUI way.' It helps to have some further options.

I am making notes for various installs mostly the proprietary driver method (in case I wish to use it) but I have found nothing on 'removal' of the previous/current driver and I think it's possible to run into trouble because some remaining module or file is left that is interferring or conflicting. It would be convenient to know the procedure for removing the driver or anything that needs to be removed in order to install a fresh driver. For e.g., I think that there are some 'packages' or modules that must be removed and for my last attempt, somehow they were left (namely nvidia-glx). There were many instances of 'nvidia-glx' and I didn't know whether it was just that or *anything* that had 'nvidia-glx' in the name.

Okay, my knowledge here is poor and I'm just rambling now so I appreciate any help.

Edit/P.S. I suspect you can edit 'xorg.conf' and change the driver or module? But, isn't there other packages/files installed that still must be removed? Anyway, that's it for now.
