    Kubuntu 8.10 Suspend to Ram

So I got brave and tried the "Suspend to RAM" feature in 8.10. The system did go into a sleep mode just fine. However when I turned the machine back on I started hearing strange clink/clank noises from my hard drive. Soon after the system started spewing errors about the drive and was unresponsive to any commands issued. After letting it try to recover for 10 minutes or so I finally turned it off. When I powered the machine back on the clink/clank noises were again there and the BIOS can not see the drive. I have switched SATA channels as well as machines and the problem follows the drive.

I suspect that the drive head(s) was not properly parked when the system went into suspend mode. Then when it fired back up it probably did some damage. Anyone have ideas/theories?
