[SOLVED] No audio from speakers on laptop

    Hi all,

Just installed 8.10 on an HP6730 laptop with intel ad1984a sound card. Card is recognized, drivers are loaded, everything is unmuted and cranked up in alsamixer, AND I get sound nicely from the headphones, but nothing from the laptop speakers. I seem to remember that the short time this machine had vista on it, the speakers worked, but I'm not entirely sure.

Anyone here have similar problems with an intel ad1984a card? If not, do you know which live cd has working sound on this hardware, so I can check if something's wrong with the speakers? Don't really feel like reinstalling vista just to test the audio, but that's obviously also an option.

Update: I tried changing the priorities in system settings -> sound so HDA intel (AD198x Analog Front Speakers) was first in the priority list, which when I shut down the pc resulted in a phonon error message stating that the front speakers device didn't work, and now that I rebooted, the device has been removed from the sound settings dialog. So something is clearly wrong.
    I.

Have a look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=5017453 and see if anything applies.

Indeed it does: added the line

      Code:
      options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, and now everything works the way it should. Thank you very much
