Monitor ???

    Monitor ???

    I am new with Kubuntu 64bit...
    I have installed my g-card but i can select my monitor..
    so i cant get the right hz or size...
    i have a Samsung SyncMaster 1200NF
    Cane anyone help me?

    which video card are you using?
    usually you don't have to select any certain monitor type.

        did you install the Nvidia driver??

            ok, so with the card you have I am assuming you downloaded and installed the 177 driver?
            In System Settings >Display are you able to select the size under Size & Orientation?

              i did that but i couldn't size More then 1152x864 (50Hz)

                  If you are using a CRT screen, then you need to use gtf to get the right size + Hz combo. For me this would be:

                  (With 85 being 85hz in my case. and 1024 768 the resolution)

                  And then add the resolution info to your xorg.conf (located in /etc/X11/xorg.conf)

                  Please note that setting wrong monitor settings can physically damage the monitor, so you must be 100% sure that your screen supports it.

                  Some LCD screens don't do refresh rates >60Hz (not needed with those anyway). In that case you would skip the modeline part and just use Modes "1024x768", without the _85.00 part.

                  It would also make sense to use a driver that supports 3D acceleration...so that you can use Desktop Effects. (To test it type glxinfo | grep direct into a Konsole window).

                  Hope this helps...took me a while to figure it out.

                  The Kmix thing is connected to sound. I get the same thing. I'm ignoring it cause it doesn't seem to have much actual effect when it crashes.

                    IT WORKT TX

                    i used the 177 drivers and then i typed gtf 1600 1200 85
                    Then pasted it and replaset the v+g hz with my monitors hz and then i could change hz and size in nvidia config

                      i more small thing....

                      Can you please check /etc/hosts to see if your hostname maps to 127.0.x.x ?

                      is it my ip by router? 192.168.1.2
                      or my won ip? (the ip peapol connect to me)

                        127.0.0.1 localhost
                        127.0.1.1 Sphere
                        The top one is always localhost, the bottom one will refer to the name of you PC, i.e. its not your username.

                            Your hostname maps to your network IP from an external box. The 127.0.X.X is the loopback address.

                            i.e. From a remote windows back "ping TheRazer" will give some IP (192.168.1.64), but if you ping your own box from kubuntu it will give the loopback address (127.0.1.1)
