I've got an older Compaq machine with an AMD Athlon 3200+ 64-bit processor, 1 GB of PC 3200 SDRAM DDR memory and an ATI video card (can't remember the model number).
I've been thinking of upgrading the mother board, CPU and video card so that I can play a few of the newer video games that have recently come out on the Windoze side, but I want to maintain Linux compatibility since that is where I do my day to day work.
Any recommendations on what I should look at, what I should stay away from, or where I can look to get good info from a Linux perspective on an upgrade path in each of the three areas (mother board, CPU and video card)? I'm not hard over for Intel or AMD - I could go either way. After using the ATI video card on this machine and Nvidia cards on other machines, I tend to prefer the Nvidia cards, but my experience is somewhat dated.
All inputs are welcomed.
Thanks.
