Welcome to the forum. First I would suggest searching the forum for previous posts on your problem. It is very likely you will find the solution. If that does not provide a solution, post back here.

i don't know what to search for actually? my ethernet card(onboard) is recognised i think because it is seen as eth0 in k network manager. but when i try a connection it fails. there is also an option to enter the ip adresses (netmask etc) manually but i don't understand that ... what can i do?

        Search for:

        internet connection eth0

in the search field. That should get you lots of hits with many suggestions about solutions. Knetworkmanager seems to work for some, but not others. Many are having a problem with it. Personally, for a simple wired connection, I don't use any network manager at all. If after searching, you don't find a solution, open a terminal and enter cat /etc/network/interfaces and copy the results and paste in a reply here.
