Nvidia X server problems

So I just upgraded to Intrepid. After the upgrade X would not start so I ran

sudo dpkg-reconfig xserver-xorg

After that X started but when I opened the Nvidia Settings program it said I need to run nvidia-xconfig.

Here's the results of running nvidia-xconfig

Upon reboot X would not come up again so I needed to repeat the dpkg-reconfigure
anyway, most things are working but it's annoying and I'd like to fix it. so I gathered more data

Here's the relevant line from lspci

However, no fixed NVidia driver has been released yet. You can find information on how to improve graphics performance on KDE UserBase, although we ultimately have to rely on NVidia to fix their driver."

I'd recommend reinstalling the driver. Do it like this:

Thanks, I tried running
envyng -t

I uninstalled the 177 drivers then reinstalled them, I even tried the 173 drivers. It didn't help. I guess I'll wait like the other post suggested. I'd considered bailing to Debian Lenny before the upgrade but turns out I like KDE4 who would have thought.

What is your Nvidia chip?

The X.org version in 8.10 does not support the drivers for cards before 6xxx series.

I recently tried the 3.0 beta driver from Nvidia and it was an improvement for my system.

Unfortunately I don't know how I found the beta download page and don't know where the 32 bit version of the beta driver is located. The supported product page lists the 8400 gs

You may want to check it out. I followed the installation instructions on the web page and the process deleted all the conflicting files and reset everything up. It is still is not perfect but good enough to make me feel good about upgrading to Intrepid.
